Ancient site of Atapuerca

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000, is one of the most important sites in the world to know Human Evolution.

In Gran Dolina it has been found the remains of Homo antecessor, more than 800,000 years old, a new human species that pose the most ancient hominid remains found in Western Europe.

In the Sima de los Huesos is the largest field of human fossils of Homo heidelbergensis or preneanderthal, about 400,000 years old.

There are also traces of occupation by Homo sapiens for about 4,000 years and human settlements of the Neolithic and megalithic culture.
