Monasterio del Paular, Rascafría

Located since 1834 in the province of Madrid (formerly belonged to Segovia) and only one hour from the capital of Spain and 15 km from Camping Monte Holiday, which can bring a bicycle in a greenway.

The Monastery is located in the incomparable site of Lozoya valley, which forms a natural amphitheater on a plateau of about 1159 m, surrounded by the magnificent peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama: Peñalara (2430 m), Cabeza de Hierro (2.380m.) Risco de Claveles (2.200m.) y El Reventón (2.078m.). It is accessed through four mountain passes: Morcuera (Miraflores road), Cotos (Navacerrada road), Navafría (Navafría road) and Salto de la Liebre (Lozoya road).

King Juan I of Castile made the first stone on August 29th, 1390. The following year came the first residents to reside, the Order of the Carthusians, who until the sale in 1835 would occupy the monastery, making it one of the great Carthusian Spain, which commanded  the build of The Charterhouse of Granada. Since 1954 inhabits the monastery a small Benedictine community, whose motto is "ora et labora" (pray and work). The role of monks is the care and maintenance of the monastery, as well as serve as visitors come to enjoy and see the monastery and its surroundings.
