The same route can vary in difficulty depending on the season and the physical form. But there is always an appropriate activity!
Mountain Treks
Valley of Lozoya is surrounded by the highest elevations of the Community of Madrid: Peñalara with 2428 meters, Cabezas de Hierro 2383 meters with the nearby and rather famous El Nevero, 2209 m.
While you gain altitude, you leave behind people, oak and pine forests, mountain scrub, to the prairies and the rocks and lakes where you can still "read" the traces left by the last glaciers just a few thousand years ago.
CLIMBS
They can be EASY CLIMBS if we choose a good summer day and a popular route:
- Never since the Port of Navafría
- Peñalara from the Port of Cotos
- Cabezas de Hierro from Rascafría
They can also be demanding climbs in winter, if you like ice climbing. They can only be tried by mountaineers with proper equipment (clothing, ice axes, crampons, rope in some cases) and physical fitness:
- Peñalara Peak by Cirque tubes
- El Nevero by the couloirs of Hoyos de Pinilla
- Tubos of Cabeza de Hierro
CROSSING TREKS
1. Cuerda Larga. We suggest the variant from the campsite to the pass of Navacerrada through Cachiporrilla, La Najarra and Cabezas de Hierro. A challenge of nearly 50 km!
2. Cuerda Eterna. Another long journey for one or two days, the Montes Carpetanos. From the campsite to the pass of Navafría, El Nevero and thence to the pass of Cotos through Claveles and Peñalara. ¡Patience and nice views!
