The municipality of Gargantilla del Lozoya has been chosen to represent the Community of Madrid in the Network of Municipalities for the Imperial Eagle, MAI.
November 30th, a presentation of this initiative will take place in Gargantilla. Representatives of SEO, of the Community of Madrid, the City Council and the sponsors of the Network will meet from 11 in the morning to present the initiative and place a commemorative poster at the entrance of the village.
Main Objectives
The main objective of the MAI Network is to engage municipalities in the conservation of this species and its habitat, with tools to enable them to harmonize policies and municipal activities with conservation.
More than 60 municipalities in 13 provinces and 5 communities have already joined the Network. Any municipality interested in the preservation of the species, can join the Network.
Belonging to the Network offers the opportunity to Gargantilla del Lozoya to enhance its natural wealth through access to information and technical advice to facilitate the reconciliation of political and municipal management with biodiversity conservation, exchange of experiences with other municipalities and activities awareness and outreach to citizens.
Meanwhile Gargantilla acquires a series of commitments, including taking into account the conservation of the Iberian imperial eagle and its habitat in policy and municipal management; encourage the same thing is done on private property located in the municipality, assist in the raising awareness and educating the public about the conservation of biodiversity and in particular the Iberian imperial eagle.

Staff from the campsite Monte Holiday are very proud that our City Council is representing the Community of Madrid in this very important initiative for environmental conservation.
We want to keep on contributing on the Protection of Birds, and we will offer courses organized by SEO, environmental days in collaboration with DeAmicitia and other activities for better understanding and greater respect for the environment of the Valle del Lozoya.
